Central Park Primary School

Central Park Primary School is situated in East Ham, in the London Borough of Newham. It is easily accessed by public transport; the nearest tube station (10 minutes walk) is Upton Park Station, and there are several bus routes that run very close to the school. The school building consists of a three-storied building, a single-storied building and several mobile classrooms. There is a school playground for each of KS1 and KS2. The Early Years also have their own outdoor area. In addition to the classrooms, we are currently developing dedicated rooms for Science and Food, ICT, Art and DT.

The school is multicultural and multifaith. The main religions represented in the school are Islam, Christianity, Sikhism and Hinduism. The majority of our children are bilingual. In line with Newham policy, we are an inclusive school, which means that we admit children with a wide range of abilities, including those with complex learning difficulties. A full-time, non-class based Inclusion Leader and an SEN teacher support children with special educational needs, directing the 1:1 support teaching assistants.

Our admissions number is 120 pupils per year group. The school is organised into four key stages; each key stage contains 7-8 classes. The staff in each phase group, including the Early Years Foundation Phase, plan and work closely together, being led by a Key Stage Leader. Each Early Years Foundation Stage class consists of a teacher and one nursery nurse, with Welfare Assistants supporting the Nursery Classes. There are three Nursery classes, each offering 156 part-time places (26 in the morning and 26 in the afternoon in each class). You should note that a place in the Nursery does not guarantee a place in the main school.

The catchment area of the school contains a mixture of housing - private, rented, and council; almost a third of our pupils are entitled to free school meals. Two vital aspects of the ethos of the school are our Inclusion and Behaviour Policies, both of which seek to ensure that pupils have equal access to all that the school offers, that our approach to discipline is assertive and positive, and that achievement is positively encouraged and recognised. Every Child Really Does Matter at Central Park. Our governing body is hardworking and strongly supportive of the school.

The school places the highest emphasis on literacy teaching and learning and its links with other areas of learning, as we believe that it is fundamental to the wider educational achievement of our pupils. The curriculum for the Early Years Foundation Stage strongly reflects this emphasis. We have in place a curriculum that adopts a skills-based approach, which is skill, attitude and attribute driven rather than content driven, and which enables the child to develop key learning skills.
